Yuma qualified 4 wrestlers out of the tough Central Region for the 5A State Tournament.  The East Valley, and Central Regions won the most medals of any region at this year's state tournament.  Marcos de Niza was the Central Champions as well as the state champions for the 3rd year consecutive.

Brock Williamson finished his senior year with a state runner up medal in the state tournament.  He and Steve Martinez (6th)  were the only two Yuma seniors who finished four years in the program and also the only two Yuma wrestlers to win a medal at state.  Francisco Macias and Nick Johnson picked up tournament wins, but lost some close matches to finish their seasons.

John Matos           275 3rd in Region

Once again, Yuma had 4 qualifiers out of the Central Region.  Sophomores Noel Martinez and Raul Sanchez made their first trip as did first year wrestler, jr. John Matos.  Jr. Francisco Macias appeared for the 3rd time.  The opening Saturday of wrestling in Tucson, at Marana Mt. View, saw 19 wrestlers disqualified for either skin conditions or for missing weight.  On site physicians were doing the skin check, and wrestlers who had Dr. notes were ruled ineligible as well as those without.  A sad finish for many seniors who had qualified.
The Crims had 3 wrestlers advance to the following weekend.  Sanchez and Macias advanced to the quarterfinals, while Matos remained in the wrestlebacks.  The following weekend at the new Glendale arena, Yuma had only Macias win matches after a quarterfinal loss, but eventually he went out  just prior to the medal round.  All wrestlers did gain that valuable state meet experience.
