Flagstaff Peaks Tournament
"Wrestling at 7000 ft."
Dec. 5/6

Yuma traveled to Flagstaff, Az.  for the first tournament of the year.  This tournament is a dual meet format with 4 duals the first day and three more the next.  After the duals, the top three finishers from each pool (7 teams in each) compete for medals.
Yuma didn't fare too well in the dual meet competition, forfeiting two weights on the first day and three on the second.
Two sets of  Criminal brothers won medals:  Francisco Macias finished second at 135 lbs., losing in overtime in the finals to Ontiveros  from Flagstaff, 7-5.  Macias  had defeated this same wrestler earlier in dual meet competition, 4-3.   Steve Martinez also finished second at 152, losing his finals match to  Zenthon Hatcher of Coconino 7-4.  Martinez had also defeated his opponent earlier in the tournament, 6-4.  Steven Macias (130) finished 5th by decisioning Lind of Cactus, 7-2.  Freshman Noel Martinez (119) earned Yuma's only other place with a 6th place finish at 119.  He lost a close 2-1 decision to Carroll of Prescott by giving up a takedown in the last three seconds of his match.  Both Francisco Macias and Steve Martinez finished 7-1 for the two day affair.
